Topic: Serve - Sever - Veers - Verse (08/14/25)
Joshua 24:15 (NKJV), "And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

This verse stands out as a beacon of unwavering clarity in the Bible. Here, Joshua presents a crystal-clear choice to the Israelites: whom will they serve? The Lord, the gods of their ancestors, or the Amorites? He boldly declares that, for him and his house, the decision is unequivocal-they will serve the Lord, a choice that inspires and guides us in our spiritual journey.

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon," Matthew 6:24 (NKJV).

We cannot serve God and money or other gods.' We will be devoted to the one and despise the other. This verse underscores the stark incompatibility of serving both God and material possessions. It makes it clear that allegiance to one inevitably leads to neglect or disregard for the other, and a separation must take place.

Matthew 6:24 is part of Jesus's profound discourse on worry and priorities in the Sermon on the Mount. He uses a compelling analogy of a servant serving two masters to illustrate the concept of undivided devotion. In this context, Jesus represented the ultimate of affection, loyalty, and service, making it clear to us true devotion.

True devotion, as Jesus presents it, is not just about outward actions but about the state of the heart and the unwavering commitment to God. This profound teaching enlightens and spiritually nourishes us.

"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many," Mark 10:45 (NKJV).

This verse highlights Jesus's purpose of selfless service, showing us how he had to sever from His kingdom to become a man to perform His sacrificial death for the redemption of humanity. It emphasizes that Jesus came to serve others and ultimately gave his life as a payment to free people from the bondage of sin, a selfless act that humbles and fills us with gratitude.

For us to be a part of His redemption, we must consciously, with full awareness, choose which master to serve, as devotion to one will necessitate hatred and separation from the other. And we must allow Him to change our direction from darkness to His marvelous light. As we choose the Lord Jesus Christ, darkness veers away from our lives, and we become free from sin.

"For whom the 'Son' set free is free indeed."
