One day a stranger entered the room. It swept through the room, covering everything in a cloudy mist as it came. Like a dagger, it cut through me. Then all went dark. I felt myself drifting away from the home I had known so long. Away from the sorrows and joys of life. Through the caverns unseen in mortal life.
I do not know how long it was before I arrived there. Time didn't seem to be a thing anymore. The most beautiful light I had ever seen surrounded me. I looked around. The garden of Paradise spread out before me. Abraham took me by the hand and lifted me to my feet.
"Son, your time on Earth is not over yet."
"How can that be?" I asked in a mixture of confusion at his words and wonder at the thing I saw there.
"You will yet show the wonders of Elohim* to the inhabitants of the Earth. It was prophesied that three things would the Messiah do, and He alone. To restore the sight of a man born blind, to cast out a dumb demon, and to raise one who was dead four days: these are the signs He will do, and is doing now."
"Wait, I know he healed a man blind from birth the other day, but..."
"Yes, you have been dead 3 days already. Today in the time of Earth is the fourth day since your death."
"Wha..."
The scene was shattered by another voice not from this place breaking through the bounds of Paradise to reach me.
"Lazarus, come forth!"
Instantly, I found myself wound in grave clothes lying on a stone bench inside the tomb where my lifeless body had been laid. I sat up. With some difficultly, I stumbled to my bound feet. Though my eyes were covered by the cloth in which I was bound, I could easily see the doorway with the brilliant light of the sun piercing through the darkness in the tomb. Struggling forward, I came out of the tomb at my Lord's command, nearly tripping on the threshold of the door.
"Unbind him and let him go."
As the grave clothes fell from my eyes, removed by my friends, I saw the tears still glittering in the sunlight on His cheeks. How great was His love for us! Though He knew He would raise me from the dead, still He cried when He saw the sorrow of His beloved. He cried! The all-powerful Creator of heaven and earth cried! The thought overwhelmed me as I realized the depth of His love.
Of course, those hard-hearted Pharisees stood nearby, plotting how to silence the word of this miracle. Some even wanted to kill me again. But I am not worried about them. I have seen the power of my Lord over death itself.
Before the day was over, Jesus healed another man. This man was bound by a dumb demon. Silly blind Pharisees, they demanded of Him a sign. A sign! He literally just showed them all three of the Messianic signs! The signs were fulfilled. Truly, this Man –if it is lawful to call Him a man— my Lord, is the long awaited Messiah.
My name is Lazarus. When death took me away with its sharp sword of disease, my Lord called me back from the grave.
