Food. That was all I could think of. I had tried eating grass. But it just made me sick. I ate insects. Not very satisfying, but better than nothing.
And I got angry with God.
I could get all the food I wanted if I would just take that silly little implant into my hand.
But I couldn’t. Every time I thought about it, terrifying thoughts would come from sermons I used to hear, about how I would be doomed if I took the mark of the beast. It was supposed to be evil.
But hunger takes over. I was starving.
So I got angry with God. It wasn’t supposed to be this way. My energetic, charismatic and very rich preacher had insisted that we would not suffer. We were going to be taken away in the Rapture long before things got this bad.
I was born again, and trying to follow God. I tried my hardest.
But here I was, starving.
In the end I threw my Bible away because I was too weak from hunger to carry it, and I had nowhere to keep it. I went through a stage where I wasn’t hungry anymore. I just wanted to die. But now I am hungry again. Very, very hungry.
And dirty.
And smelly.
And tired.
“Where are You, Lord?” It was the first time in weeks that I had prayed. I had been too angry with God to pray. But suddenly I was praying and praying and praying.
“Help me, please, Lord. I can’t cope on my own.”
“I never asked you to cope on your own. Take that high path over on your right.”
I looked around, startled. There was no one there. Could it have been God?
I couldn’t see any path on my right, but I went over just to make sure.
It was there. A carefully hidden path. Scared, I followed it. Slowly. I was very weak.
Then I smelt it. FOOD.
I found I had more energy than I thought and walked faster.
“You are welcome. We know God sent you”.
Who was that? Suddenly a man stepped out onto the path in front of me. Smiling, he waved me closer.
“You look hungry. We have food. Come.”
The path opened out into a grassy area with a little hut and a table surrounded by happily eating people. They turned towards me and smiled and called me to come and eat.
Food. Little pots of food were on the table. They handed one to me, smiling. Without waiting for the spoon I lifted it up and ate. So good! But then I looked at the pot, surprised. IT WAS STILL FULL.
They laughed at my bewilderment.
“We call them bubble-pots. God gave them to us. They were ordinary pots till He touched them. Now whenever we need food, it just bubbles up in the pot. The food is very healthy – it keeps us going for days. So we go out into the world again and try to reach people for Yeshua. Then when we start to get weak we come back and eat some bubble-pot food.”
Suddenly I knew that these people were walking more closely with God than I ever had, and I wanted to have faith like theirs. They took me to a little hollow among the trees. Others were there, praying. I had never heard such prayer. They prayed with absolute faith that God was in control, and there was NOTHING to fear. They clearly believed that they had a job to do – reaching those who had not yet turned their lives over to God. No matter what the cost would be to themselves.
But I had many questions still. Painful ones.
Like why did the rapture not happen when it was supposed to?
“It will,” they assured me. “Exactly when it is supposed to – just before Yeshua returns, when this Great Tribulation is over.”
That was not what I had been taught.
“Let us look in the Bible, to see what it tells us.”
1 Thess 4:13-17. Until the coming of The Lord – with the trumpet of God – shall be caught up together to meet the Lord in the air.
His coming is not until AFTER the tribulation.
1 Cor 15:50-57 at the LAST trumpet. Not before the first.
Matt 24:29-30 AFTER the tribulation…..the angels will gather His elect.
God’s Word.
I was SOOOOOO hungry for more.
