What does it look like?
What does it mean?
Has true honor ever been seen?
Broken promises.
Broken hearts
Not living up
To our individual parts
What does it mean to honor a parent
The answer is not always apparent.
Does it mean to agree
With whatever they say?
Does it mean to always let their wishes hold sway
Over our actions?
Does it mean to follow them
Even when they are wrong
Does it mean to give in
And just go along?
We mustn't violate our principles
We cannot do what is wrong
We cannot join this seductive song
We honor them by showing them love
Following the example that came from above
Not indulging in slander
Or responding in anger
We do what we can
To meet their needs
But aren’t responsible
For meeting their greeds
When raising us
They made mistakes
They did the best they could
But they had what it takes
To love us
To our parents we owe a debt
we can never repay
In return for the sacrifices
they made every day
God is our father
He alone is unflawed
We honor our parents
To honor God
True honor
What does it look like?
What does it mean?
Has true honor ever been seen?
The answer is yes
There’s no need to guess
Just look at Jesus
