I truly enjoyed this biblical fiction. You did an excellent job of mixing fiction with Bible verses. I especially liked the ending. I thought it quite a brilliant representation of the Bible and Jesus. Even now, over two thousand plus years later, people are still trying to decipher parts of the Bible and Jesus' meaning.

Congratulations on your 3rd place EC. You've done well at bringing this scene to life and showing the way these disciples still misunderstood Jesus' idea of honor.

Jack, I was just going through some of the previous submissions, looking for yours. You are the first other person I have heard acknowledge Salome as Yeshua's aunt. I think so many others have never compared the crucifixion accounts and realized there were four significant women at the cross. (Though Matthew records "many women" were there in 27:55-56. As does Mark in 15:40-41.)

I know, with you, I am "preaching to the choir," but please allow me to explain this -- for the benefit of anyone else who may read this submission of yours and the comments below. Because it's such an exciting discovery.

Luke just calls them "women who had followed Him" in 23:49.

The other three all report that Mary Magdalene was there. Mary, the mother of James the younger and Joseph was also the wife of Clopas, as John brought out in 19:25-27.

John is also the only one who records that Yeshua's mother was there and it's in this account that Yeshua gave her care to John.

However, in Matthew 27:56, he mentions "the mother of James and John, the sons of Zebedee" was there. We all know this was Salome. Then John records in verse 25 that Yeshua's mother's sister was there. John is referring to his own mother, Salome.

What others may not also know is that, in Hebrew culture, the eldest son was responsible for taking care of his widowed mother. But, knowing what was coming, Yeshua needed to give her care into the hands of a male family member. He (or the Father) chose his cousin, John.
