Back then we never knew
Which way to paint our nursery,
A pretty pink or blue.
When I was found to be with child,
My husband’s hope was “son.”
I wanted healthy baby SOON,
But I’d love either one.
Then when, at last, the babe was born,
Indeed, it was a boy.
We didn’t realize that day
He’d always bring us joy.
I’d prayed we’d have a little girl,
When she was on the way.
With her birth came new happiness
That’s with us still today.
The son and daughter that are ours
Were sent from God’s own hand.
We taught them Jesus loves them, and
To follow His command.
Our children found God-given mates
And added grandkids, four,
Who when they grew up, married, too.
Great grandkids made six more.
Of twenty-four folks bound by love,
Our family’s comprised.
With gender found now before birth,
No longer we’re surprised.
