Gender was bisected away from sex so that sex became the biological attributes of humans and animals primarily associated with physical and physiological features like chromosomes, hormone levels, reproductive anatomy and gene expression. Something that can be changed by science and doctors.
Gender referred to a social construct focused on roles, behaviors, expressions and identities. It dealt with how people perceived themselves, how they interacted, how power and resources were distributed and it existed in a continuum that could change over time. A continuum that contains 57 or more options. It could become increasingly diverse depending on society and institutional definitions.
Money pushed boundaries with his research on intersex, transsexuality, pornography, sexual liberation and more. In an age pushing the boundaries away from faith and tradition, the realities described in Romans One surged into open celebration. Several stages are listed. “God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another… God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men…” (Rom. 1:24-28)
As long as a term is bandied around in academia the public often turns a blind eye. When the impact is felt in the stories of real people things can change. When a mediocre male swimmer, ranked 462nd, takes on the persona of a trans woman (Lia Thomas) and then ties for a race, takes the trophy and is nominated as women of the year by the NCAA, it is no wonder that Riley Gaines, the spurned biological woman, objects.
Gaines, a 12-time All-American swimmer, tweeted, “How are we not seeing the blatant discrimination that we are facing on the basis of sex, which is, of course, what everything Title IX was created to protect? We are, as women, being discriminated on the basis of sex.” Thomas became the first transgendered woman to win the Ivy League Championship and the NCAA Championship in swimming.
Tennis star, Martina Navratilova, noted that “there will always be significant numbers of boys and men who would beat the best women and girls in head-to-head competition. Claims to the contrary are simply a denial of science.” Members of the progressive agenda point out that there is no general application that all men can beat all women at all events.
Title IX is the federal civil rights law in the US, enacted in 1972, to prohibit sex-based discrimination in any institution receiving federal funding. The expansion in understanding to include sexual orientation and gender identity has stretched the boundaries into the current controversy in sports competitions. This fear that funding will be removed if there is discrimination against someone in the LGBTQI+ community has kept the rules of engagement loose.
Caitlyn Jenner, former Olympian Bruce Jenner, accepts that Lia Thomas followed NCAA rules to win her trophy but says that “the woke world out there gave Lia Thomas the ability to take away medals from other athletes…. The NCAA should be out to protect women’s sports.” Jenner sees this as a character issue and says that “transitioning comes with responsibility and integrity… As a trans woman she has a massive physical advantage.”
Political commentator, Tammy Bruce, labels this as “self-indulgent, malignant narcissism when you’re willing to do to others what is completely unfair.”
For Gaines, the biggest humiliation came when the female swimmers had to change in the same room with Thomas. When females complained, they were told to be quiet. “Lia Thomas is not a brave, courageous woman who EARNED a national title. He is an arrogant, cheat who STOLE a national title from a hardworking, deserving woman,” she tweeted.
God made them ‘male and female’ has become as much a focal point of questioning as the creation that surrounded Adam and Eve coming into existence. Future generations may look back on these days in wonder at how we switched our understanding of myths.

I agree that sports is a tricky area. People who have some gender biology towards male will be a bit faster and stronger than those who have everything alined into female. Tricky to figure out what is fair.
