“Is there any other things to be addressed before we pray?”
“Sister Agatha.”
It wasn't just one voice. It sounded like a church choir speaking in unison.
“Has she had another dream?” Pastor Carl already knew what the answer was going to be. It was Brother Duncan that spoke first so the board members simply let him be their spokesperson.
“Not another one, Pastor. The same one. And she still thinks she needs to follow what she thinks is 'God speaking' to her.”
“She is just a harmless old lady. Can't we just let this dream thing die from neglect?” Pastor Carl truly hoped the board would agree. It was not meant to be.
“She is talking to church members about her dream. Pastor, a lot of the members think she is right. Every one of the board members have been approached about making changes according to Agatha's dream.”
“What kind of changes? I thought her dream was about inviting dead people from a graveyard to come to church. It is a silly dream. Morbid, but silly.”
“Did you know that she is convinced that our church is the graveyard?”
“No.” Pastor Carl tried to look at nobody but he somehow could see the piercing eyes of everybody. “What is she telling the members that we should do?”
“Have a revival. As if we need a revival. The church is financially sound. We have enough members to keep us secure. We have tried and true programs that has been bringing in new members. Why would she think we need revival?”
Pastor Carl gave no immediate response, partly because he didn't want to think about it right now and partly because it was what he had already been thinking about for several months. He looked at each one of the stone faced board members and saw, for the first time ever, corpses sitting around the table. It was almost like he was having a dream (or vision?) of just how much his church was like the graves in Agatha's dreams. He was the pastor of a dying church. He knew he was to one to blame as well as the one to do something about it. He was the one that needed to do the right thing... finally.
“Gentlemen,” Pastor Carl tried to put a solid voice of authority into his next words. “It is time to have a revival. In fact, it is long over do. In fact, it is something that has been on my heart for the last several months. I want a search committee formed to find a fired up revival preacher. Are there any objections?”
There were frowning grunts and groans but there were no objections.
“By the way, gentlemen, I want Agatha to head the committee.”
