Climbs higher than the Eiffel,
And dust bunnies hop freely
All over the house,
It’s hard to have a happy heart.
When it’s rained for a week,
And the children run screaming
Throughout every room,
Leaving echoes and clutter behind,
It’s hard to have a happy heart.
When you’re needing some sleep
And you head for your bed,
But the baby’s awake and crying, instead,
And crying and crying and crying,
It’s hard to have a happy heart.
When your kitchen is filled
With a pack of starved wolves,
And dinner is not close to ready,
And you wish to escape to place faraway,
It’s hard to have a happy heart.
When you feel like a train
Has just run over you
And has broken your bones
And your spirit,
It’s hard to have a happy heart.
Amid all this bedlam, there’s rest,
As you see that the Lord is beside you.
You can pray for His strength,
For the tasks that are yours,
And He’ll give you His patience, beside.
With the peace that He gives,
And the joy only He can provide,
You can rest in His love
And trust in His care
With your own happy heart inside.
