Broken doors and idol matter
Generations betrayed God’s law
Judah judged and Israel scattered
Then a boy only eight years old
Took the throne in Jerusalem
He desired to clean God’s temple
The restoration soon began
Hilkiah the priest found a jar
Under rubble and thick with dust
He didn’t know the treasure found
And how his king would humbly trust
Ancient words stained papyrus
Somehow preserved in jars of clay
Hidden and lost for many years
But now they see the light of day
Hilkiah soon began to read
He discovered God’s holy plan
He called Shaphan, Josiah’s scribe,
And gave the book into his hand
Shaphan approached Judah’s young king
“Hilkiah the priest found a treasure
The lost book of God’s holy law
Shall I read it for you pleasure?”
Young king Josiah tore his robes
As Shaphan read the Law out loud
Pierced to his heart Josiah wept
Repenting to the Holy God
He vowed to follow every word
Written on the papyrus reed
With all his heart and all his soul
He yearned to follow Yahweh’s lead
Josiah honoured all God’s words
He purged the land of sin and shame
He tore down every idol height
Leading Judah to do the same
We can learn a lesson from this
How’s the temple we’re living in?
Is it desolate and broken?
Is it the time to fully clean?
Mortal bodies are jars of clay
And we can hide God’s word within
Is it lost in a stone cold heart?
Or does God sit as sovereign?
Free His word and declare it truth
Let it out from the hidden place
Read it daily humble in heart
Repent, return to God again
