And hearing fail to understand,
Their senses dulled, they can’t believe,
To them He’s just another man.
Performs great miracles and signs,
Speaks like no prophet known before,
Through evidence at hand defines
How nature can be man’s mentor .
And so in parables He shares,
He paints word pictures to each ear,
Through common things great truth declares
For everyone with ears to hear.
At first the sower and the seed,
Then the field of wheat and tares,
The enmity of drought and weed
That catch the heedless unawares.
The mustard seed, the baker’s yeast
The hidden treasure of great worth
The priceless pearl and last, not least
The dragnet filled with every sort.
The humble people gladly heard
Unshackled by religious ties
The simple, true, life-changing word
That sets men free from Satan’s lies.
Through common things the Lord explains
God’s kingdom to the listening ear,
The precious truth each word contains
Are words of life for ears that hear.
