"What's that I hear? Oh my goodness, it's the most beautiful sound in the world. I hear the Master's voice. Martha, Martha He’s here! Jesus is here! (SHE LAUGHS IN DELIGHT)
Martha is scurrying around, seeing every ball of dust, every item that’s askew. But I only have eyes for Jesus. Martha seats Jesus and then goes back to her many preparations. She’s preparing everything, except her ears and heart.
I know I should be helping Martha, I look back and forth, so torn. And then I hear Jesus begin teaching and my decision is clear. There’s only place for me to be, at Jesus’s feet.
I sit at his feet as His words roll into my ears and into my heart. What better place to be than at Jesus’s feet. Martha’s shrill complaint disturbs my joy.
“Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
Loaded with guilt I gaze up at the Master’s face, holding my breath, wondering if He will scold me. It would break my heart to hear words of chastisement from Jesus.
My worry is for nothing. Jesus could not more scold me than a fig tree grow olives
“Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42)
I had heard many precious words from Jesus’ lips, but none so precious as those. Jesus said I had chosen what was better, and it would not be taken away from me.
How about you, do you love hearing the voice of Jesus? I know what some of you are thinking,(CHANGES HER VOICE TO QUOTE) “what do you mean? I can’t hear the voice of Jesus. It was easy for you, Jesus was there on earth in the flesh. Oh, to live at the time of Jesus.”
(CHANGES VOICE BACK) But that was only three short years and so few times He came to see us I’m not ungrateful, just greedy, greedy for more time with Jesus.
Are you greedy for more time with Jesus?
How to hear the voice of Jesus? You are blessed with this Bible. (PICKS UP A BIBLE) Jesus’s words splash through its pages, and even when it’s not quoting Him, He is speaking, telling us His truth.
And you can pray to Jesus any time you want. I could only talk to Jesus those few times He came to see us. You can talk with Him through prayer.
ANY time you want.
Any TIME you want.
Any time you WANT.
In the tale of my sister and me, where does your name belong?
Will He say your name in “My child, My child, you are worried and upset about many things but few things are needed—or indeed only one.”
Or will He say, “My child you have chosen what is better and it will not be taken away from you.”
Hear the voice of Jesus.
He’s here.
