In my heart there is a hole
The world has taken such a toll
I need to be made whole
The city can be so frantic so busy
It makes me dizzy

I want to retreat to the mountains
To my cabin of dreams
But then it seems
An impossibility

If only I could drive an hour to the mountain
To escape the cares that keep on mountin’
I need a vacation
I need recreation

Who can afford the gas
I’m stuck here alas!

If I could only relax
If I could only be free
But it is so clear
No mountain cabin for me.

And then I realize...

I can escape without going anywhere
I can escape the trouble
Escape the care
By retreating to the cabin of my soul
Where God waits to make me whole.

I bring my hopes, my hurts, my heartaches
And lay them at the feet
Of the One who is so sweet

In the silence of my room
It becomes for me a womb

Where God births my dreams
And takes my prayers
To meet the dares
He makes of me.

I go to the cabin
Not to retreat

But to advance
To be strengthened
So I can seize my chance
When it arrives

In the cabin of my soul
I am refreshed and rested
Ready for the next time I am tested
By the World

Lord, In the cabin of my soul
I relax and am made whole

For I spend time with You
I don’t need a mountain view
To be refreshed
For I already have the best
Cabin there is

Thanks to my time with Jesus
In the stillness of my room
My heart sings
And joy it brings
Into the cabin of my soul

Rested
After being tested

There are rips in my soul
The world has taken such a toll
God fills every hole
Making me better than whole

In the cabin of my soul
Where I go to be made whole

A place where Jesus and I meet
Where the fellowship is so sweet

Time with my Lord
Our hearts in one accord

It is a retreat
That is ever so sweet
My cabin of the soul

A very unique poem. I like how you put it all together. I, too, long for a cabin for my soul. I believe we all do. Very well written.
