Remembering the past
While watching trees through window’s view,
Their evening shadows cast.
He had joy in recalling now
His cabin in the woods,
And for the years it was his home,
Forget, he never could.
Inside the nearby mountains was
A lovely, shaded glen,
Where he had labored many weeks
To build a home within.
He’d loved the changing seasons there
From verdant green to white,
And in between, the colored leaves,
Had been an awesome sight.
He’d been entranced by sparkling streams
That made a quiet show,
And ducklings in a little pond
That followed in a row,
The plume of smoke from chimney fire
That hid among the clouds,
And quietness while walking trails
Away from city crowds.
When he’d first carried his new bride,
Inside his cabin door,
The love they’d had was special then
And each year had grown more.
Now easily could he see still
Around the fireplace,
His children gathered happily
And image of each face.
While thinking of his memories,
With wife still by his side,
He thanked the Lord for all His care,
And joy was magnified.
