Not even one small stroke.
That’s not a thing to take pride in,
So I don’t tell most folk.
I don’t like water in my eyes
And neither in my ears,
And any thought that I might drown
Brings monumental fears.
To wear a tiny bathing suit
Is also not a draw,
Since I look better in my clothes
Than nearly in the raw.
My own small children in the pool,
I guarded valiantly,
And if a problem would occur,
I’d be right there to see.
I could not be their rescuer
Since I’d not swim at all,
But if they needed any help,
Quite loudly could I call.
I still admire a swimmer who
Glides smoothly cross the lake,
But there’s no swimming lesson yet
Enticing me to take.
Though I said I don’t tell most folk
About my swimming lack,
I’ve blabbed it now to all the world,
And I can’t take it back.
