Countless variables show up to play significant parts in the production of this cycle of life drama. We make humorous allusions to the kinds of mysterious fruit we might have through our ancestral trees. Anyone’s bloodline can yield all kinds of surprising crops from way back when.
Mine did!
In 1809, a well-known historical figure was killed. Old newspaper accounts from that event seem a little fuzzy on the official conclusion. Was it murder or self-inflicted? Most believed evidence pointed straight at the former.
This person was part of a team of two (plus their helpers) sanctioned by a famous president to do some serious trekking and reporting on the state of this country when it was in its infancy.
Sadly, my connection to the worm-infested branch in this historical revelation was to the perpetrator. I remember my grandmother alluding to some vague family connection to a branch of the family not that many miles from where we were born.
A few years ago, a second cousin managed to unearth a lot of stunning details. It’s almost too fantastic to believe that my great-great-grandfather had a role in this famous drama. Even worse, his wife was a serious person of interest. The court ruling lacked a lot of details.
Again, any search of possible rotten branches on a person’s family tree can expose not only the good but the bad and the ugly as well. The important lesson is that actions of those who came before us have nothing to do with who we are or might become.
What an incredible blessing that when we are grafted into the REAL tree of life through Jesus, none of that other fruity stuff matters!
