A sweet and juicy fruit - I want to be that treat,
The one that people look for and that they long to eat.
My color would be perfect, my texture exquisite,
My wondrous flavor luscious, and oh so sweet.
I'd not be an exotic fruit that could be hard to find,
One that's unapproachable, elusive and refined,
I'd like to be a common one that mixes in the salad,
One that sees each other one as absolutely valid.
Not a fruit of beauty while inside I would be sour,
Lovely to look at, but awful to devour,
Projecting a persona of kindness and of good,
But riddled deep inside with evil and falsehood.
I wouldn't be an unripe fruit so hard and uninviting,
I wouldn't want to be like that, so tough and unexciting.
Instead of being stubborn, mean and unforgiving,
I'd be willing to forgive, be gentle, kind and giving.
I'd not grow on a prickly bush or on a thorny tree,
So difficult to climb and not easy picking me.
I'd make myself available for everyone to find,
I'd be somebody who tries to help and also to be kind.
I'd not be fruit that's over-ripe, soft and past its prime,
That's waited far too long and so run out of time,
I'd rather keep myself in shape by prayer and in the Word,
Be someone who's worth listening to, someone to be heard.
I choose to be the type of fruit to nourish and renew,
I choose to be restorative and lead towards breakthrough.
I choose to bear the Spirit's fruit every single day,
To live as Jesus wants me to as he leads me on his way.
