And whether it’s clear or a mystery,
It cannot be changed
Or rearranged.
Some parts we regret
Which we may try to forget,
But back comes the pain,
Again, and again...
A little more hindsight,
Might have kept us aright.
Sure we could have, would have,
And we certainly should have,
But here we are stuck
With the effects of bad luck
Or maybe lack of choices,
While our enemy rejoices.
At his disposal is our whole track record
And he will applaud
Our every mistake
And failure to take
God at His word
And every promise we’ve heard
But not obeyed
As we’ve strayed.
Would others be aghast
If they knew of our past,
Or of the temptations we still face,
As we struggle in God’s grace
To embrace how He sees us –
And allow Him to release us?
Though we may often feel defeated,
Our past needs not to be repeated.
For on God’s heart
Is a whole new start
For all
Who will call
On His name.
A future without shame
Or blame
Is ours to claim.
This is no fiction,
For through Jesus’ crucifixion
We may be forgiven
And start livin’
In the power of his grace,
So we may face
Temptation and distraction
In His Spirit’s action,
To claim His blessing
And keep accessing
His limitless power
In our strongest and our weakest hour.
To find His resurrection
Giving us new strength and direction...
Yet it doesn’t stop with us
For God has a focus
For us to actively forgive
So others may also live
Free of their guilt,
And find themselves being rebuilt
In harmony with God and with others,
Enabling enemies to become brothers.
Our history is not our fate,
So it’s not yet too late
To turn our lives around
And step up to higher ground.
Yet there’s healing from our history
As we explore the mystery
Of God’s sublime
Grasp of time.
For anytime our hurt
Might persuade us to revert
To the futility of our past,
God opens up the vast
Resources of his grace
To give us more space.
So our hurts need not to be nursed,
Or rehearsed,
They can actually be reversed.
And not just to avoid the worst,
But to bring healing
To others who are feeling
So far below their best
That they are totally depressed.
For God’s comfort – beyond our ability
Reaching through us with credibility
Which reveals God’s availability
For them in their need
So they can proceed
In a growing appreciation
Of God’s gift of salvation.
So instead of our history sealing our fate
Our future becomes something to celebrate.

It held truth, conviction, little bit of humor, and intrinsic thinking, well done.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
God bless~

It reminds me of a time I heard a prior prostitute exclaim, "Now that I have Jesus in my life, I rejoice. Because He has made me PURE."
I agree with Verna. It's a beautifully written poem. First place, for sure.
