A day of history,
Nor does it alter anything
That made our country free.
Discarded images of men
Who were not always right,
Is not a proof they never lived
Though now they’re out of sight.
To change the name of street or town
Or any other place,
Cannot reverse the deeds once done,
Their good or bad erase.
The men who built our nation’s laws
And our democracy
Although not perfect, did their best
To make our nation free.
Injustice is not ever right,
In present or the past.
For future, we must honor all,
Securing peace to last.
The past’s a package all wrapped up.
It’s futile to protest it,
Instead to learn from its mistakes,
And then, in turn, to best it.
The choice is ours to honor God,
Live nobly as we can,
Ensuring that our legacy
Will pass time’s test again.
