I hear the sound of voices in my head, threatening, calling me to believe their lies. ‘You’re no good, you hate yourself, unloved, God doesn’t listen to you,’ and on and on.
I know they are lies. I know I am loved by God. I know, I know, I know, yet I struggle to believe I’m loved in spite of my faults, downfalls, and … sin.
Searching for wisps of Scripture, my mind swirls with pieces and snippets of verses. I turn to songs and find lines that comfort my heart. Why, oh why, do I not trust in only Him!
By this time, I am scanning the yard for my dogs. As I open the door for them, I notice the damp smell of the earth as the early sun streams through the rising mist. The emerald grasses glisten. And the birds, oh the birds, how they rejoice in the daylight and swoop through the air searching for food.
Tender leaves rustle softly as a gentle breeze floats through the yard. I remind myself how they bend in the wind but a dead tree will break. Maybe I’m dead inside.
I sit at my desk and open my Bible. There is my hope, my deliverance.
“The Lord’s acts of mercy indeed do not end, for His compassions do not fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion, says my soul, ‘Therefore I wait for Him.’”
Another day, new every morning, is His mercy for me. No matter what yesterday brought or what tomorrow may bring, I have His mercy today. I am regenerated and made ready for the day because of His great reminders which ease my mind.
