On grooves of memory,
Beginning with the lullaby
My mother crooned to me,
And ditties that my daddy sang
While I sat on his knee.
The music of my childhood days
Was happy and carefree,
Like choruses in children’s church,
And rhymes we sang at play
As we jumped rope together
On any summer day.
The love songs when I found “the one”
And I first fell in love,
Then melodies of married life,
A gift from God above.
The lullabies are heard again
With our own babies dear.
I taught them songs of Jesus’ love
To fill their hearts with cheer.
The dirges sung at funerals
Cause me to give a sigh.
I hated times when loved ones said
A final long goodbye.
My record’s favorites are hymns
That through my life have played,
With praise and honor to my King
As close to Him I’ve stayed.
