Is all that there could be,
And no one else were in the world
Except for you and me?
What if there were no history,
With no past to recall,
No memories of yesterday,
No ancestry at all?
What if there were no time beyond
What we have here today,
No future to look forward to,
No reason left to pray?
I’m thankful for a present time,
The now in which we share
With all God’s children here below,
Kept always in His care.
I’m happy, too, for history,
A world lived age to age.
We’re blessed by those who’ve left behind
A goodly heritage.
The future is a joyful thought
With dreams yet to fulfill
And days God has ordained for us
To live within His will.
Awaits us still a grander day
To hold with confidence—
A present that’s forevermore
In heaven’s providence.
