Primed in creamy white,
A cotton canvas was prepared
For the painting of her life.
An easel held the canvas blank,
A table at the side
Held paints and pallet, brushes, rags,
The scope and choices wide.
She painted swirls of colour,
Streaks of black and white,
And when she paused to look at it
It sometimes looked just right.
At times she couldn't bear it;
The colours made her ache,
So she painted over choices,
Things that now seemed fake.
She knew a masterpiece was planned
By the One who gave her life.
Although the brush was in her hand,
His guidance was required.
She was grateful for forgiveness,
At times when she'd confess.
She'd paint the crooked over
When her painting was a mess.
He'd planned where he would hang it
In her perfect frame,
The artwork of her lifetime,
The designer's hall of fame.
And even in the hanging
She would hear his call,
If it was sitting crooked,
To straighten on the wall.
God, who made the canvas,
Provided all the tools,
Let her make her choices
But guided when she called.
When she took his counsel
When she knew his peace
Together they were painting
A Godly masterpiece.
