I sit beside a cozy fire
And watch through the window
As light snowflakes drift down
To drizzle white icing
On a still green world.
It’s long past lunchtime,
And I dream of delicious sauces,
Drizzled on favorite foods . . .
Sweet and tangy barbecue sauce
On tender pulled pork
Or fall-off-the-bone ribs,
Bold and sassy bleu cheese sauce
On tasty tenderloin steak
Or a fat juicy hamburger,
Rich, creamy alfredo sauce
On buttered noodles
With chicken-breast morsels,
Hot and spicy jerk seasoning sauce
On succulent grilled chicken,
Just like in Jamaica,
Velvety honey topping
On warm flaky biscuits,
Dripping with butter,
Confectionary caramel sauce
On fresh-from-the-oven
Toffee Pecan Bundt Cake,
Delectable almond frosting
on golden brown shortbread cookies
with a dollop of raspberry on top.
Classic vanilla icing
On cinnamon coffee cakes
And fruity muffins,
Decadent chocolate sauces,
The best of all,
Thick and fudgy or silky dark,
On plump ripe strawberries,
Scrumptious cupcakes and cookies,
And smooth, refreshing ice cream.
And now I really must get lunch!
