Not content to accept with Grace the gift that Jesus came to pay our entrance fee and become our Lord, many think that more is required so off we go up that makeshift homemade ladder wobbling willy-nilly
There is no glory-ticket waiting as we work like beavers to build such good-intentioned steps we concoct and mix from rules and handed down assumptions that are not commanded for our salvation and final resting place with the Savior.
There is no pretend cement or glue or sticks or stones made from tools we’ve picked up, and probably in good faith, and touted as conditions to eternity that are merely based on our behavior.
Each one toiling in the useless race tries to prove the final fate is based on what we do and if we sing with gusto with hands raised or embrace sweet hymns learned from childhood or dance with joy or pray quietly in pews.
Add to that apparel's part in suits or jeans, dresses long or not, communion when and how and debate on how much water and which days doors open are not the steps that lead to redemption. Liturgy or other service orders are ways to manage corporate worship but do not dictate that pathway Home.
We have no need to despair because the TRUTH is, there’s GOOD NEWS.
When we abandon the plans to build that ethereal ladder formed with intentions with no power, a senseless effort to get to the Father, it does not mean there is no fruit from our obedience as we honor commandments and give our all.
But…
In the end, the very end, the pass we get to Heaven comes from believing Jesus is our Lord and Savior and building our lives around a relationship with Him. His Holy Spirit will direct our steps and protect us from what our own shabby efforts would cause—a sad and unexpected fall.

The title intrigues me. Was that a play on words i.e. Babylon typifies our own efforts at greatness?
