Of one word - like “Reflect,”
It’s easy to expect
That my mind will be wrecked
In no time at all.
For it’s so easy to stall.
To seriously reflect
Is to quickly detect
And reject
Any thoughts indirect
That try to deflect
Me from a clear line of thought -
The rationale that ought -
To flow freely onto the screen.
But just between
You and me
It’s not hard to see
How much mental energy
Is desired
And required
To accurately ‘predect’
The ‘impect’
Of this poem upon any of my readers.
Will they negatively ‘re-ect’
As I might expect
Them to do -
Even from line two?
If this verse shows no sign of reflection,
It could lead to their rejection
Of whatever else I write.
Despite
Any attempt I make to resurrect
The slightest aspect
Of what I had first intended.
For their patience may well have ended -
Being offended
At this verbal spurt.
So their feelings I’ll no longer hurt
With this rhyme
That’s so far from sublime…
