It’s dark where I stay in this strange abode without a road that leads me straight to what I knew. I wander here and there looking for signs but only go in circles. Why doesn’t someone rescue me?
Light used to dance in your eyes as you worked and sang and planned, but now the lamp flickers on, but mostly off, and I cannot keep you on the track that brings you back to those who miss and love you.
How did my brain make up its mind to lock me in and leave no sign to show escape from this sometimes scary jail? Where is the door? Where is the key? How do I get from here to where I’m made to be?
Sometimes I spy a faint reply when you’re infused with substance dabs made in labs meant to send you in the right direction. Will it work? Can you hear? Will you grab the line and pull yourself ashore?
I think I hear a voice calling in my wilderness to get me turned around and headed for new life. It chimes so softly like a tiny bell, but I can tell it’s from a home I used to know. Oh, please don’t stop until I get my bearings.
A shadow falls across your face and where the lights were off before I see a hint that someone’s home in your soul, in that dark and awful hole. I pray, “What can I do?” to keep you moving straight this way until you’re safe and sound, and then it dawns. I’ll sing!
Don’t let me go. I hear you call. Is that the sun I see?
Jesus loves me, this I know.
Don’t stop! I know this song.
Little ones to Him be known.
I am weak, but He is strong. YES, Jesus loves me!
I cry because you smile. In a while, we’ll sing some more as that heavy door opens wide and you step through to journey on the path to your eternity.
Where were you when I lost my way? What took so long?
I never left, but more than that, God held you tight and did not leave your side.
Thank you, Lord. Praise Your Holy Name!
Welcome back.
