Without You,
I would run
Away from my world
Away from my life
the demands
the heartaches

I long to have peace
But find none in my house
Instead, there is fighting
sullenness
anger
broken relationships
and fear

Home should be a place of joy
Where children smile and spouses are thankful
It should be a fount of peace
and support
But mine is often the opposite

Why can't I run to the woods?
Live with the animals?
Be alone with You?
Nature is beautiful
And it asks no questions
Makes no demands on my heart or my time
I want to live in the wilderness
Surrounded by Your creation
Alone

But then...

A child of mine gives me a kiss
Says thank you
Or tells me that I'm the best mom in the whole world
My heart melts
And I stay

It's hard sometimes to stay
But You give me the strength
And show me the blessings
So instead of complaining
I will thank You
And not run away

This pulls at my heart in an extraordinarily way. At the despairing limits that God so chooses to place us, He is always there and this writing tells it so well.

I have the greatest respect for parents. Just when it seems like the chaos is overwhelming, a child might blow a kiss or say something so adorable that everything is forgotten.
