bulging out from its binding,
pressing down on the axles
of an ancient truck,
grinding the cogs beyond their design ...
Like a backpack of stones
gathered one by one,
each one small and light,
every single one of value,
and none can be cast off ...
Like a tree that bears its fruit
from bud to flower
to a swelling, ripening crop,
but never lets it drop
as its weight grows great ...
So is the overladen heart,
the burdened mind
and the encumbered soul
that cannot rest
till exhaustion holds control.
But where is the solace it seeks,
the sweet release
of respite from the heavy load,
the lightening,
the lifting up to joy?
Is there someone who is able
to guard the mind,
strengthen the fearful heart,
carry the burden
and give rest to the soul?
Like a strong tower is our God,
our loving shepherd,
an immovable rock,
a sturdy shield,
our strength and consolation.
He understands our weakness,
and he lifts us up,
shoulders our heavy weights
as he carries us,
not ever a burden to him.

Psalm 23:1
