I saw Lily one day as I was walking in the mall and was immediately struck by her appearance. She enchanted me from the first. I walked up to her and she seemed friendly. With her first words, she drew me into a world of joy with her colorful personality. I began speaking of trivial things, and at first it didn't seem important that her responses were relatively banal. After all, we barely knew each other, that first day. After that first conversation, I knew I wanted her to share my life.
Soon, she was a part of my daily life, and I so looked forward to our time together. But I slowly began to realize she was overly fond of mindless, endless chatter. Slowly, over time, that chatter has begun to wear down my patience.
Tell me: how can one so lovely spout such meaningless drivel? It's interminable. She speaks of what she wants to eat, or extols her own beauty. Often – and this is what annoys me most – she does nothing more than echo my own words. Despite her beauty, I don't know how much longer I can put up with her endless prattling.
Of course I love her. Who wouldn’t love such a charming creature? I admit she has brought color and joy to my life, and she enthusiastically welcomes me each evening when I come home from work. I’m in awe of her beauty, as I have been from the first day. But even the most patient of men has his limits.
I don't know how will learn to endure this, but I'll tell you this: if anything ever happens to Lily, there'll be no more parrots for me.
For my next pet, I think I'll get a cat.
