Henry was a born salesman – which prompts the question about whether super salesmen are born or made. But since I’ve never yet met one who has never been born, it’s safe to assume that training enters the picture at some stage.
Yet to meet Henry was to be swept up in his enthusiasm for whatever he was promoting.
No matter how hopeless the market potential for any new project might be, he was always looking for a new angle on promoting it.
In short, Henry was a confidence man. And like all confidence men, he had the ability to fall on other people’s feet. Thankfully, they survived. Older and wiser, and well aware of the need to give him a wide berth if they heard of any new schemes.
Some of his ventures were spectacular failures, like an acupuncture clinic for haemophiliacs, which caused a lot of problems.
He then ventured into the wild, gathering a few misguided followers in a noble attempt to stamp out quicksand. Many of them are still wading - to find out if they have actually succeeded, but strangely enough they have not set eyes on Henry in quite a while…
His next idea was to market correspondence courses in how to swim, which left his customers high and dry
Henry then invented a kitchen (literal) breakthrough; a dishwasher with a tumble-dry cycle, but it also never took off.
He saw great potential in tourism, so he began leading groups of art lovers - with more money than sense - around Renaissance sites in central Italy. They were searching for the first fifteen chapels painted by Michelangelo – before this great master had been commissioned to leave his legendary frescoes – his most famous work – to adorn the ceiling of the Sixteenth Chapel in Vatican City.
Last time I heard of Henry, he was out hustling for backing on a totally-new, untried idea for the entertainment world. Yes, this would truly be a revolutionary concept, but I kept my distance because I was sure it would also disappear without trace.
And that’s despite the catchy titles of songs like Dune is Bustin’ out All Over, The Desert Song, The Camels Are Coming, to name just a few…
For Henry’s sights were set on launching a full-scale musical…

Unfortunately, I have met a few Henry's in my lifetime.
Acupuncture for haemophiliacs is my favorite but the rest are funny too.
Poor Henry. All his big ideas fizzle out. Great job and thank you for the giggles!
