In fall’s early planting season,
Now bow with the weight
Of winter’s punishment.
Her icy fingers have pushed
Deep into the ground
Their fragile stems and leaves,
Along with their delicate petals.
All the while, she has spread over them
A heavy blanket of snow.
With twisted, broken faces,
The flowers peer disconsolately
Through raggedy white beards.
They hope for spring’s arrival,
With sun’s healing rays
And warm gentle breezes,
To breathe life again
Into their brokenness.
The people of God,
Through His guidance,
Endure the punishing winter
Of a world fallen into sin.
Satan has trampled upon
The holy laws of God.
Spread over all the earth
Is every sort of evil machination
The devil has devised.
The saved ones,
Who have sought and received
God’s free salvation through faith
In His infinite grace,
Rest secure in His promises
And His omnipotence.
They joyfully anticipate
The return of their Savior
And that brighter day,
When they will be with Him forever
In Heaven’s everlasting springtime.
