Topic: PRIDE (inflated opinion of one’s self) (02/19/15)
Our hero never wears a tee-shirt - or a turtle-neck sweater;
But button-up shirts instead.
He finds these much better
As they don’t have to stretch over his head.

As a full-blown verbal vortex,
He dominates every conversation; so it reflects
Only the subjects
That focus on him―as he expects.

With the top of his convertible down
He turns heads all over town
As he soaks up the sun.
But if clouds threaten to rain on his fun;
A button on the dash
Makes clouds go in a flash!!!

Checking your Christmas gift list?
And feeling less like an optimist?
Here’s what to give this egotist;
― This “I”-specialist.

Whatever he touches; he inevitably controls…
So a set of Russian dolls
Is the perfect surprise
For such self-absorbed guys.
Since―even off the shelves―
These dolls are also full of themselves...

Walking around with his nose stuck high in the air
He may ignore any catcall or whistle.
Yet he needs to be aware
Of his risk of drowning in a drizzle!

Though we may query this sad specimen,
He’s sure there’s no-one greater.
For - convinced he is a self-made man -
He worships his own creator.

Powerfully entertaining poem of truths!

I enjoyed this immensely, and loved the "drowning in a drizzle" Amazingly funny line, yet it makes for a profound commentary.

Brilliant! Lots of subtle humour here, starting with the first verse... as they don't have to stretch over his head. The Russian doll verse is ace and the last one sums your character up perfectly. You banged the topic on the head. Ouch! Great job!

I'm sitting here looking at a set of those Russian dolls I bought while in Russia in 1995 on a mission trip. I liked the part about them being full of themselves. The idea of someone thinking they are self-made, and thus worshiping their own creator is wonderful. Good job!
