Agitating, activating,
Calling for revenge
Was his rage.
Like a bubbling geyser, contained,
Stewing, steaming,
Waiting to explode
Was this rage.
Muscles tensed and taut,
Heartbeat undisguised,
Breathing as he need,
With nostrils flared,
He moved along the streets.
Like a scuttling rat, incognito,
From shadow to shade,
From corner to cove,
With his rage.
Determination led him on
Moving his joints,
Fuelling his sinews,
Steeling his eyes
And his down-turned lips.
Then the deed was done.
The rage expired,
And was gone.
Like a foetal blob, he crouched,
Bloodied knife dropped down,
Eyes dead, mouth agape.
Feet frozen to the ground
In a daze.
When fear took hold he fled
To river banks of ink,
As tears rolled down.
His feet moved on and on,
His face was numb.
He walked till morning's glow
Turned shadows into shapes,
Till strong resolve took hold
Within his heart,
A raging blaze.
Contrition and his shame
Drove him along,
Till there he sat,
Barred in a cell,
Confession done.
On shaking knees he knelt
Head bent, eyes closed,
Whispering his prayer,
Repenting of his rage,
Accepting God's mercy.
