Was alive
With tension
And much apprehension.
For their beloved queen
Had grown so mean
And sadistic
That each worker felt like a statistic.
They’d always enjoyed
Being employed
To collect all the pollen.
But their production had drastically fallen
Of late;
Through her failure to appreciate
All their work.
Instead,
Her power had gone to her head,
And no-one was exempt
From her contempt
She would sneer and jeer,
Offering no cheer to any mere
Worker bee;
Would she.
Time was fleeting,
So the bees held a meeting
To discuss insurrection
Or some kind of defection
To another hive.
But they could not arrive
At a common consensus
About their defences.
So one bee volunteered
(Because the others all feared)
To order the queen
To stop venting her spleen
Before the queen’s throne
Came this courageous drone
To protest
Their unrest.
Yet the queen was unmoved
She clearly disapproved,
“You, a mere drone
Would claim this hive as your own!
This whole idea is indefensible -
For as queen I’m indispensable!”
But support for the drone
Had overnight grown
Until all of the bees
Expressed their unease.
The queen sensed their malice
From inside her palace
And got such a fright
That she took flight.
Her body was later found
On distant high ground.
She had died
From committing insecticide
Today, if you arrive
At that hive,
There’s no queen
To be seen.
Ask any of the bees
And they’ll explain with ease
They had nothing to lose.
For they were free to choose
Between
Her “Contempt or her eviction!”

Let me just say this, I love to read all entries without knowing who they are. So I neither "throw bricks" or "read the forum of such" ---but I believe I know this author!
The style is so "unique."
Well done!
I loved it.
Great closing line.
God bless~
I jest, but in all seriousness, I know that this behaviour exists within our own, human-hubs. It is a very timely reminder to mind one's head does not get too big! Well done, this was a great read.
This is a fun read, and like Camille, I haven't read the bricks but I'm pretty certain I know whose work this is!
Noel, you just made my day.
I would make a snarky pun in reply, but I think you'd win the match anyway, to be 'honeyst'.
