Nicely put together, sentimental story with a powerful message.

Sadly, it's not just small towns that are being affected by chain stores; we have seen supermarkets sell all kinds of things for ridiculously low prices, undercutting and eventually ruining nearby small business owners. Once they have cornered the market, their prices soar. I live in the suburb where Holdens have been manufactured for many years; this will now close within one or two years, and the fall out will be horrendous.

I really enjoyed the way that your MC stood up for her fellow towns people. I would love to know what it was that she said! Well done.
Ironically this entry may lose points for its lack of fiction, because you've traced a scenario that is only too true.
Very sensitive portrayal of the anxiety that pervades many small towns, underlining another truth - that every business is a people business.
Great writing.

I grew up in a small town and this brought back lovely memories. Congratulations on a well deserved win.
