Hey everyone. Won't be on for a week. Grouned from technology. No cell phone, no TV, no tablet, and no computer. I'll let you know how horrible my week was. If I survive. Parents!
Day 1: Monday
Today was my first full day of my "digital detox." I was miserable. All I did was complain. I figured if I complained enough, they'd reverse their decision, just to get me to be quiet. It didn't work. They threatened to make it two weeks.
Day 2: Tuesday
Mom kicked me out of the house. Told me to go to the library. Hey! They have computers there, I thought. Mom saw right through my game.
"I know everyone up there and called the library. They know you are not to get on the internet, so don't even try. You can use the card catalog computer, but that's it."
I did find a few books, but I doubt I'll like them.
Day 3: Wednesday
I started reading the books I got from the library yesterday. I forgot how nice a real book feels in your hands, and I haven't read for pleasure in ages. I miss it. Maybe this week won't be so bad after all.
Day 4: Thursday
Today I walked to the park. I sat down on a bench by the playground to read, and saw a little boy sitting next to the playground playing on his tablet. It took all I had not to rip it from his hands and tell him to go play and spend some energy. Don't kids ever just run around for the fun of it anymore?
Oh gee. I sound like my parents. Help me.
Days 5 and 6: Friday and Saturday
Mom had me take my kid sis on a camping trip. I tried to convince mom I would at least need my cell phone, in case of emergency. She reminded me that Kaitlyn had her special kid cell phone that can only call emergency contacts.
I actually enjoyed the camping trip. It was fun to just talk and catch up with Kaitlyn. We're both so busy, we hardly see each other, let alone sit and talk. I can't believe how big she's getting.
I forgot how beautiful the stars are at night when you get away from the city lights, and how peaceful nature's lullaby is. Kaitlyn and I slathered on bug repellant and decided to go without the tent, and just fell asleep under the stars. It was awesome. We need to do things like this more often. I think I'm going to have to plan some "sister days" for the two of us.
Day 7: Sunday
Church today. I had to go find and dust off my actual Bible. You know. The big "fake leather" one. I usually just use my phone. When I decided to look up the passages, that is. I'll admit, I normally just play on my phone.
When it was time for the sermon, I opened my Bible to the passage and found all these notes I had written in it, from summer camp and youth group. Wow. I needed those reminders. And I forgot how good the pastor's sermons are when I really take the time to just sit and listen.
Oh, and the music! It was so refreshing to really worship. From now on, my phone is banned from church service.
After church, I started reading another book I got from the library. Mom came in and told me my digital detox was officially over. I'm sure she was expecting me to jump up and run for my phone, but I think I surprised her. "Okay. I think I'm going to read another chapter or two."
Wait until I post about this online. My friends will think I've lost my mind.

This really felt so realistic and authentic. I found myself wanting to read more by the end. Great idea to use the daily diary. I think this may be a winner this week.
Awesome job!
Good message too!
God bless~
:-) Congratulations!
