We all know that Frankenstein's monster is brought to life by a massive bolt of lightening sparking its lifeforce into existence. The question that needs to be asked is, what kind of life did the monster have? He was a hideous representation of a human being; frightening and, well when it all came down to it, just "wrong." It was something that should never have been created, and its existence brought nothing but destruction and death.
Something living from flesh that is dead. That's worth pondering on for a moment. As horrible as it sounds, this is just what we often try to do spiritually. We try and graft onto our souls an 'arm' of Buddhism and leg of Islam, along with a hand of Communism and perhaps another of Spiritualism. And the head? Ahh, that is where we really go wrong. We cut off the true head of our lives, God, and replace him with Humanism, the brain behind our spiritual 'monster,' that says no matter what religion I have created, I will always be the most important part, the centre of all decisions and the one to determine which path I will follow.
This type of purpose-built faith that is made by grafting to our souls tenets from many religions might be given 'life,' but that doesn't make it right! It will always be a copy of the original, a hideous mis-creation that will bring nothing but death and the destruction of souls, for the very source of its life is also a counterfeit of the true source of life,
"...for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." 2 Cor 11:14b NIV
The Bible tells us there has only ever been one man who has beaten death, physically and spiritually - Jesus Christ - and it is only on his body, his pure, sinless being that was broken and battered and resurrected for us, that we can build our faith. We simply cannot graft Jesus' spirit to ours along with anyone else's dogma or "false truth," and expect it to work! Jesus Christ is the truth and we must graft ourselves into him,
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5 NIV
So let me ask you this, are you grafted into Jesus today? Or does your spirit look a little like Frankenstein's monster? If this is the case, I have great news for you - it's not too late to regraft yourself into the truth!
