I slowly turn, then gathering speed
I rise; the dark deep waters part,
Whilst tiny creatures of the deep
Scuttle with speed and quickly dart
Away, And still I upward soar
Leaving behind the darker place
Of marine depth, of teeming life,
The underwater world’s embrace.
Up, up, into the warmer realms
Where sun beats fiercely on the shore
Where sloping dunes dip gently low
Into the sea, sparkling azure,
Rich turquoise and cerulean hue.
I break the surface of the brine
And hear my Master clearly speak
‘Swim to the shore. Now is the time.’
I blow, I turn, I dip once more
Guided and led by Sovereign hand,
My great shape glides th’appointed route
Towards the spot where sea meets land.
‘Now, now’ I hear His voice direct
In unmistakeable clear ways,
With joyful obedience I eject
The one I’d carried three long days.
I blow, he lands, before I turn
I watch him sink upon his knees,
I see his tears, his joy filled praise
Wafts gently to me o’er the breeze.
If I could speak I’d share the joy
Of quick obedience to the One
Creator God, but now he knows.
I gather speed. My job is done.
