It cuts just like a knife.
The damage caused by someone’s words,
Can ruin a person’s life.
“I heard Sue’s husband left her.”
“Oh, yes, I’m not surprised.”
We never take the time to see the pain that’s in her eyes.
A whisper here, a rumor there,
And with them hearts are broken.
God only knows what scars are left,
When unkind words are spoken.
“I can’t believe the dress she wore.”
“And did you see that hat?”
“I’d never be caught dead, at church, in clothes as tight as that.”
God tells us in the Good Book
To let our words be sweet,
And understand the harm we cause
When gossip we repeat.
“The Smith boy got arrested.”
“A pity, don’t you think?”
“His home life must be terrible, to drive a kid to drink.”
Lost people see and hear us.
It should not be a shock,
To find out that our words and deeds
Can be a stumbling block.
“She says that she’s a Christian.”
“I doubt it, but if true…”
“Becoming a believer is the last thing I will do.”
The sin of gossip binds us.
From it we must be freed.
To speak only of Jesus,
Who meets each person’s need.
