Bound by sorrow, their joy was deferred.
Amid strands of the rope
Called despair, God threads hope;
And their bondage He broke by His word.
Sold by brothers inflamed by their feud
Life enslaved and imprisoned ensued.
Forgotten, ignored
He still worshipped the Lord;
And his family, from famine, rescued.
She knelt by the river that day
Her babe in a basket did lay.
How could she have known
That her babe, fully grown,
Would lead God’s chosen people away?
Husband, sons in a foreign land died.
“Call me bitter, not pleasant,” she cried.
But her daughter-in-law
To the Lord, she did draw;
“Naught but death will make me leave your side.”
Seven decades of exile revealed
For a people whose hearts would not yield.
Though His anger did burn;
He told them they’d return
Where His prophet had purchased a field.
In a furnace, the Hebrew men three
Were thrown, for not bending the knee.
The king looked through the door
Saw not three men, but four;
And praised God, in a royal decree.
The sky, it grew dark that strange day
Our Messiah, entombed did he lay.
Of his grave, have no fear.
He arose! He is here!
He’s the life, and the truth, and the way.
When the storms of life come with their rain;
When there’s fear and there’s doubt and there’s pain;
Fall back, be restored
In the arms of your Lord;
And His peace, shining brightly, obtain.
