This sea that’s so calm
Should be to my soul
A soft soothing balm
With fingers engaged in
An old welcomed task
“Where is the peace
And contentment?” I ask
I know I’m not waiting
Where He told me to stay
But on a boat fishing
In this place far away
There should be such joy
When I look on His face
But here I am hiding
Soiled by my disgrace
His words of forgiveness
Were not meant for me
If you knew my crimes
I’m sure you’d agree
I watched from a distance
The cruelty and hate
Reducing a man
To a pitiful state
This man was no stranger
But one I called “friend”
Someone I deserted
Denied at the end
“Have you caught any fish?”
A shout from the shore
The voice is familiar
I’ve heard it before
Without hesitation
And grabbing my coat
I hurl myself forward
And jump from the boat
At once I am swimming
Against a strong tide
Compelled by a passion
That churns deeps inside
“Does He still love me?”
I hunger to know
Unless He commands me
I know I won't go
His hand reaches out
And He smiles at me
My guilt’s wiped away
Unfettered – I’m free
“Oh yes, Lord, I love you
You know that it’s true
I offer my life and
My heart up to you.”
“Your lambs will be safe
Under my watchful care
For each of Your children
I’ll always be there.”
“Lead me, dear Shepherd
With you I will go
And tender devotion
To you I will show.”
