Which gave her pause to listen
To a note that she’d been missing
In the only song she ever sang… a solo.
For years the ugly past stayed at her heel
To make her turn and watch it wave
To let her know it stayed right close, dogging,
Making sure she did not choose to let it go.
His eyes, he said, were open wide and confidant
She was the answer to his prayers
For a friend, a mate, though late in life,
But better that than never.
He struck a key, a chord so sweet
It resonated through her ice-bound heart
And melted every plan to stop this man
Who came to court - to plead his case - even if it took forever.
He opened the proceedings
With a statement of his faith
Then gently let his witness speak, the only way
To prove his point, negating all objections
To defend his stance of pure intent
And love beyond the veil, he expressed his heart,
So help him, God’s own hand he said, and twelve concurred,

The one he knew seemed right, a dream come true
For both, who in error had assumed each destiny was to
Travel by the one-way sign; a sad and lonely journey.
With doubt replaced by joy she agreed to don
The gift he humbly offered; Promise-colored glasses
Focused on the VISION of a future only LOVE can bring
With all the blissful blessings of a two-part harmony.

This has sort of a nostalgic victory to it...to remind the reader that even if things don't turn out as we anticipate, God does something even bigger. :-)
