One young bride had married a minister. Not long after they had married they were entertaining the church board for dinner. Wanting to assure the parishioners that the minister had chosen wisely, she worked on cleaning the house and preparing the meal for several days. The dinner was almost done and the guests would be arriving soon. A sudden shot gun sound caused her to almost jump out of her skin. The pressure cooker had blown its gasket and mashed potatoes adorned the ceiling above the stove. She pondered what she was going to do. She remembered that she had just that week washed the ceiling. It was clean. So grabbing a ladder and a spatula she scraped the potatoes off of the ceiling and served them to her guests. It was a delicious dinner and no one was the wiser!
I could go on and on, but I end with this one. One of our daughters married a young man that we did not know well. She was anxious about us and her new in-laws getting better acquainted. Soon after the honeymoon she called. She told us that Jim’s parents were a little intimidated because her dad was a business man and wore suits and ties most of the time. His parents operated a farm and wore jeans and flannel shirts. She thought it would be nice if we got together and played games and had snacks. We assured her that we thought Jim’s folks were lovely people and we would love to get better acquainted. On the evening of our get-together my husband donned his only pair of jeans and a casual flannel shirt. We arrived first. Would my husband’s attire put Jim’s parents at ease? Soon they arrived. The ice was broken as we all dissolved into laughter. Jim’s dad was wearing his only suit and tie.
