ADD TO MY FAVORITES
of Christ
is no child’s play
a long journey
in the same direction
I need the stamina
to press on
despite challenges
and obstacles
along life’s narrow way
I face temptations
here and there
offering choices
to replace God
claiming to satisfy wants and needs
Always a ready market
to sell what I need
to have health and wealth
or a quick fix to marriage
all packaged in God’s name
Life and soul are at stake
I can think correctly
behave rightly
worship politely
and still live badly
Live selfishly
live self-enclosed life
live bored
and insipid
anemic life
Distractions abound
the smartphones, the websites
the emails, the swiping of screens
seem to vie for my attention
What about time for God alone
I must pursue
Christ intentionally
whose glory manifests
in humiliation, obedience and sacrifice
which I too must share
Help me to grow in love and zeal
with depth of insight
that I may discern
what is best and worthy
for the day of Christ
May the Lord
find me longing
looking
and loving
at His coming
