“This man must be insane!”
His beaming face alarmed them
For it went against the grain
Of how he usually appeared
Whenever he came near.
This psycho they called “Monster”
Loved to grip their hearts with fear.
His joy annoyed them to the Nth degree. Why should they cheer?
For, now that this fierce lunatic
Whom they had long maligned
Had suddenly regained
What looked to be a stable mind,
He REALLY had them worried.
“This must be some sort of trick.
He’s trying to deceive us
Into thinking he’s not sick.”
His joy annoyed them. “We have got to figure out his ‘shtick’!”
They didn’t trust his happy smile.
What was he trying to hide?
If only they could pick his brain
And see what lay inside!
For they’d just faced a trauma
So intense, they wondered how,
If this guy was for real,
He wasn’t grieving with them now.
Instead, he mocked their dirge with joy and terrified their cow (1)
Which they would have to kill for meat
Now that they'd lost their farm.
Again they blamed this Monster
Who showed no signs of alarm,
But with a toothy grin rejoiced
At swine he’d scared away,
So many pork chops drowned
Beneath the waters in that bay!
His joy annoyed them to no end, but what would Jesus say?
“Oh, what a waste of unclean beasts”?
And, “Such a waste of time”?
“The water you’ve polluted
Won’t be salvaged on my dime”?
We know He came to save the prodigals
Out feeding pigs,
Who squandered their inheritance
In search of worldly digs. (2)
Yet folks rejected Christ, just like the tree that bore no figs. (3)
Its roots grew in good soil
But it sprouted shoots in vain,
With greenery that proved useless,
Lacking power to sustain
The lives of those who frown upon
The Lord’s deliverance.
And yet His arms remain outstretched.
“Receive another chance.”
“Go, spread the word,” He urged the man, “My kingdom to advance.” (4)
