With furor, fierceness, force, intent to bend.
Pent chaos, undetermined path to wend.
Then fragments all lie scattered on the ground.
Corrals now form a pile of branch and bough.
Comes the One who promises to mend,
sweet Savior, saw us to our neighbors tend.
Deep beneath the rubbish Hope is found.
A cowboy, strong, sits confident in place.
Resolved to stay the course no matter cost.
His crimson lasso, safe in his embrace.
He fastens broken branches to a cross.
Forever bound now to him; now see Hope’s form.
Astride they’ll ride the tempest horse named Storm.
On September 10th, 2017, Hurricane Irma forced her way through the small town of Arcadia, Florida. Giant oaks that stood for years were toppled, roots looking up to the sky. Branches and Spanish moss littered the ground and now form large piles on roadsides. Massive flooding for those living along the Peace River soon followed, and many homes were ruined. Power was out for up to nine days and some went without water and air conditioning in the sweltering Florida heat.
Still, the spirit of the people in this close-knit rodeo town was strong, and those who could helped those who couldn’t; a tribute to the pioneer ranching spirit that is so prevalent there.
