and her cheeks began to flush.
She could feel the incoming humidity,
her brain was turning to mush.
Oh, no, here comes another one,
she thought with desolate dismay.
Ive got to make it stop this time,
somehow make it go away.
But she knew there was no escaping--
not with power, smarts, or cash--
the rising, baking, red-hot heat
of a menopausal sweaty hot flash.
She took shallow, blazing, blistering breaths
as her blood began to boil.
Somebody could make perfect pasta on me
just add a little dash of olive oil.
She struggled to maintain thinking and calm
by concentrating on some dumb questions:
When do internal organs actually cook
Coddled Kidneys, Lava Liver, Inferno Intestines?
Deep in the white hot, a lightning bolt idea struck
and she tried to hang on before the sustained burn.
She ran through the house, through invisible fiery flames,
down the hall, into the kitchen, a final turn
Is that a searing sound I hear?
She groped for the handle, yanked open the door.
She managed to thrust her face into the freezer
as her private mercury clicked over to SOAR.
Maybe my head wont truly pop off
as my body broils, roasts, scorches, and fries.
Venus, ghost peppers, the sun and I could compete
and today I believe Id easily nab first prize!
Piping hot panting, Sahara sizzling
she reached a point called hormonal solar.
Though with her face pressed against frozen peas
she should more logically be described as polar.
Seconds ticked by, her panic decreased--
she began to believe shed see another day.
The flash slowly subsided, degree by degree,
her panting slowed and the heat faded away.
She lifted her head, backed up, closed the door
and dragged her soggy self back up the stairs.
She took a shower, not quite cold but certainly cool
as her hot flash shot up its final flares.
I dont like this steamy stifling season,
this time of internal thermostat bummers.
Please, Lord, help me survive my sweltering
Feverish icky personal summers!
