The lacy leaves of old oak trees
That form a lovely canopy,
A sunshade waving lazily,
The rustle in the song it sings
In tune with soft winds’ symphony.
I miss the green of summer:
The rows of corn that stand so tall
With goodness they produce with pride—
The golden fruit they hide inside,
The way the stalks bow down and wave
With glee to all the passers-by.
I miss the green of summer:
The squares of lawns on city blocks,
Their diamond blades of morning dew,
Adornments for a day anew.
The fresh-cut scent of seas of yards
With rain-wet manicures in view.
I miss the green of summer:
The gardens gleaming in the sun,
The meadows where the horses play.
The mountains when snow melts away,
The shadowed valleys deep below.
I wish that green would always stay.
I miss the green of summer.
