Reminds me of C.S. Lewis and The Screwtape Letters. Nicely done.
Very graphic, relentless build-up to a terrific twist, for if the devil can disguise himself as an angel of light, it's only fair to give equal time to God and his angels.
I agree that there's a touch of CS Lewis here, but you've also outlined the deceptive path of addiction - in which flimsy, easily-broken cobwebs of distraction that look harmless (or even quite okay) gradually become cables that begin to control and subsume any other natural drive or appetite.
Great work, young V (a nom de plume to preserve anonymity - but who wants to know about that anyway???)
This is a powerful piece. There have been quite a few stories this week about demons and angels but this held my attention and I truly enjoyed the twist ending.
